Digital Culture + Everyday Life

tai_mobile

We research digital culture embedded in people’s daily life,  analyzing social and cultural continuities and discontinuities, values, practices, representations, rules and norms related to “the digital” and the imaginary of a ‘good life’.

Art, Arquitecture and New Materialities

This project aims to study and develop new methodologies to embrace the role given to the materials along the Art and Architecture histories from a new materialistic frame of thought. How can we generate tools to study artistic practices empirically? Through which tactics can we ensemble and narrate alternative temporalities in Art History?  In which ways the concept of “materialism” is articulate- if it is so- in contemporary artistic production and exhibitions labs and centers? D-FUTURE: Prácticas de futuro, espacios de creación digital e innovación social

This interdisciplinary research project study future-oriented practices for social innovation that are rooted in processes of digital creation (design, digital fabrication, development of technology, cultural and artistic productions) and in digital story telling. Our goal is to analyze how social innovation is mobilized in digital creative spaces as co-workings or maker spaces, and projects linked to methodologies of work collaboration and design. Theorising media and practice: the book!

Summary

Although practice theory has been a mainstay of social theory for nearly three decades, so far it has had very limited impact on media studies. This book draws on the work of practice theorists such as Wittgenstein, Foucault, Bourdieu, Barth and Schatzki and rethinks the study of media from the perspective of practice theory. Drawing on ethnographic case studies from places such as Zambia, India, Hong Kong, the United States, Britain, Norway and Denmark, the contributors address a number of important themes: media as practice; the interlinkage between media, culture and practice; the contextual study of media practices; and new practices of digital production. Collectively, these chapters make a strong case for the importance of theorising the relationship between media and practice and thereby adding practice theory as a new strand to the study of anthropology of media.
