‘Media practices and cultural producers’ workshop in Barcelona

Next november, the workshop ‘Media practices and cultural producers’ will be held at the UOC, organized by Elisenda Ardèvol and Sigurjon Baldur, as part of the Media Anthropology Network events. The workshop addresses media practices and the arenas of cultural production in the context of the “new media” landscape. In broad terms, the workshop will inquire into the leading theoretical and methodological perspectives for doing anthropological research on digital mediated practices and their implications for the understanding of people’s interaction with media. The workshop will explore the circulatory flows of media practices and in particular, how digital technology use is changing media culture, cultures of media circulation and the very definition of cultural producer. There is a call for ‘research in progress’ presentations. ‘Media practices and cultural producers’ workshop in Barcelona

Identities, Sexualities and Commemorations: public space and sexual dissidence

Begonya will present a paper at the EASA Conference 2008 Experiencing diversity and mutuality in the panel Diverse and shared publics: politics of entitlement and commemoration. The paper deals with sexual diversity and the use of space and how political action, protest and commemoration form, and are informed by, the urban public spaces. The starting points of our analysis are the territorialization and articulation of the gay scene in urban settings and the dynamics in the use of space to commemorate Gay Pride. Beyond place: Using concepts and methods of Practice Theory to study mediated experience

We did it! The panel proposal organized by Edgar and Annette Markham, in which Elisenda and me (Adolfo) participate with a paper (and Edgar with other), has been admit for the AoIR Conference have been accepted. The title of the panel is ‘Beyond place: Using concepts and methods of Practice Theory to study mediated experience’, and it explores how the concept of ‘place’ can be fruitfully understood by looking at practice. Using Practice Theory as a working foundation, each of the four panelists analyze this issue, beginning with two papers focusing on theoretical premises and followed by two papers that apply the lens to the teaching of Internet Studies and live blogging practices, respectively. montseny2007-148.jpg
